Students Score Card

Africa Leadership Institute (AFLI) designed the Student Guild Scorecard initiative to equip guild
student leaders in Uganda’s higher institutions of learning (HILs) with the appropriate skills,
knowledge and attitudes to become better leaders in future.
We have signed partnership agreements with six such institutions to implement the scheme. They
are: Uganda Christian University, Makerere University, Uganda; Technical College, Elgon; Gulu
School of Nursing and Midwifery; Mbarara University of Science and Technology; and National
Teachers College, Mubende.

Management of Disasters in Uganda

Disaster preparedness and response remain a challenge for the Government of Uganda.
Sprawling chunks of the population across the country continue to suffer the debilitating
effects of calamities despite numerous interventions to increase the level of awareness
and equip emergency response teams.

The Special Question of Urban Refugees in Uganda: Emerging Policy Concerns

As the number of displaced persons exceeded the Second World War spike, the international
community and host governments continue to grapple for durable solutions. Uganda faces the
problem of surging number of refugees from 690,000 in 2015 to 1.5 million in 2018 (UNHCR,
2018), 100,000 of whom have opted for urban centres yet conventional refugee response is based
on rural settlement (Hovil 2007)

Uganda's tax Policy: Identifying and addressing the Gaps

This policy brief is based on two research studies conducted by scholars of Taxation
and Public Administration based at Makerere University Kampala (MaK) and Uganda
Management Institute (UMI) respectively.The research studies titled Public Aversion
to Tax in Uganda: Political and Public Administration Perspectives and Improving Tax
Revenue in Uganda were commissioned by Uganda Policy Development Management
Forum (UPDMF) with support from UMI and Africa Leadership Institute (AFLI). T
