New ROM Hack Brings Star Fox 2 Characters To The Original SNES Classic

Miyu & Fay join the Star Fox team.

A new hack has just been released online that introduces the Star Fox 2 characters Miyu and Fay to the original Star Fox.

Miyu and Fay, in case you are unaware, are the two brand new recruits that joined the Star Fox team in the cancelled follow-up to Star Fox (which was eventually released via the Super NES Classic Edition in 2017). They resemble a lynx and a poodle respectively, and have since become popular characters among members of the fanbase despite having only ever appeared in a single game.

Read the full article on timeextension.com

Fancy Owning The SNES PlayStation? You Can Now Make Your Own (Kinda)

STEP model now publicly available.

The story of the SNES PlayStation is so well known now that it has become part of video game folklore. Back in the early '90s, Sony and Nintendo inked a deal that would see the former produce a CD-ROM drive for the SNES, as well as the right to produce its own all-in-one system, dubbed "Play Station" (note the space).

When it became clear to Nintendo that Sony expected to gain cash from each game sold as part of the deal, it unceremoniously dumped the Japanese tech giant at the alter, signing an agreement with Philips instead. Sony created several SNES PlayStation prototypes, but the system was never put into production. One of the prototypes sold for $360,000 a few years back.

Read the full article on timeextension.com

Hudson Soft Almost Created A Castlevania-Style Dungeons & Dragons Game For SNES

"It would have taken a good 18 months [and] SNES would have been dead".

Here's some free advice for anyone conducting an interview with a member of the games industry: always ask if they witnessed or are aware of any unreleased games.

It doesn't matter who they are, or what the main topic of discussion is. Even if they're in a non-creative field, like an accountant or marketing. At the end, make a point of throwing this question out there and seeing what happens. Your author has been doing interviews for 20 years, and no one has ever claimed not to have seen one.

Read the full article on timeextension.com

Hands On: AYANEO Retro Power Bank - The Cutest Power Bank You'll Ever See

(Just don't tell Nintendo...).

AYANEO's Remake line of products boasts an array of gaming systems in various form factors, but it also includes a cute little power bank shaped like a Super NES / Super Famicom. The Chinese firm has even copied the console's iconic font, but it goes without saying that this isn't an official collaboration with Nintendo, but rather a cheeky tribute which uses nostalgia to encourage a purchase.

This 12000mAh bank measures 98 × 81 × 24.4 mm and weighs 238 grams. It showcases a function switch, action button and 32 × 128-pixel monochrome OLED display, as well as two USB-C ports, both of which are capable of outputting 45W of power (only the left-side one can be used to charge the bank itself, however).

Read the full article on timeextension.com
