Amiga, Total Units Sold Worldwide.

Ahoy ( Stuart Brown) has figured out how many Amiga's Commodore sold.
And I figured people here might be interested in it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXCWYKSjHnI

All in all its under 5 million.
Which is less then expected , by me at the very least.
But I am not really au fait with the Amiga as is.

Atari 2600/7800 cartridges in shops

Hello all!
I have recently bought an Atari 2600+, which is great. I am loving Adventure and Yar's revenge on the provided 10 in 1 cart. Amazon have stock of the reprints and older carts, eBay also has older carts for sale.
However I have realised that CEX doesn't appear to stock Atari 2600 or 7800 games!

Anyone know anywhere in the real world that stocks them?!
Or any good places online if not?

Retro Achievements

I’ve noticed lately some Retro streamers I watch doing RA’s. Not sure if this a newer trend but I’m typically not clued into much media at all. It looks like an interesting approach to old-school gaming. Anyone gotten into these or have any info about how it’s set up?

Having Issues with the website.

Hi, I am having a couple issues with the website. When I click my icon on the top right, the shade opens, but there is nothing in it except my name and user icon. Odd, because this is not a problem on NintendoLife with my same login. This is happening on iOS and MacOS Safari.

Also in both NintendoLife and Time Extension, YouTube videos do not load. It's just a black square where the video should be and nothing is clickable inside the square. There is text and a link to subscribe to NintendoLife at the bottom. If a link to the actual video could be placed there too, that would be a good workaround if it's not possible to fix the embedded YouTube videos themselves.

Hope someone can look into this. Thanks!

Junetendo

I kinda doubt this wil get much traction but here we go regardless.
Next month, ie tomorrow, I plan to do one of those self imposed challenge things.

And that is to play nothing but Wii U games for the entire month of June.
It helps thats i have a fairly decent Wii U library, so it wont be too rough.

...Hopefully.

Anybody else ever done something like this ?

What to do with ALOT of C64 cassette tapes and floppy discs

Hi all,
So I have boxes and boxes of both tapes and floppy discs for the C64.
A lot of the tapes are compilations.
Most of the discs are, to be honest, ripped games with a menu built in to each disc.
Is there a company that would take these for archiving or able to convert them to ROMs for me or something.
I know they are just going moldy in there which is sad as I have a lot of really random games in there and don't want them to go to waste.
To be honest I have not tested them out for over 30 years so god knows if any of them still work. They have been in my fathers loft for around 20 years (nice and dry) and now are in my bunker under my house (hence the username :P)
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers,

Paprium emulation

With Paprium in the news, I’ve been skimming articles on the actual game. Sounds like it only runs on MAME and may require some tweaking. Has anyone successfully emulated this game? Is it even worth my time/effort?

May take extra effort as I’ll be trying it out on my hacked Genesis mini. MAME is real hit-or-miss on there.

Retro co-op suggestions?

Been playing co-op games with my 6 year old son the past few months and am looking for suggestions. Difficult part is that I’m looking for non-violent and non-competitive games. He loved Unravel 2 on switch, has also enjoyed Dark Chambers on Atari 2600 and Shift Happens on switch. Console restrictions are pretty much anything that can be emulated on a hacked Genesis mini up through N64 and PS1. And switch.

A question about modding

Well, actually, before I ask my actual question, let ask another: is modding discussion allowed on Time Extension? I know it's typically frowned upon on the other Hookshot sites but given this site focuses on emulation and emulator handhelds, I figured it was at least worth seeing if asking about modding was ok here.

SNES and GENESIS soundtracks, which are your favorites?

As a music composer and producer, these two systems give me such a rush when I listen to them. Each with their own strengths creating very strong music. Some of my favorites have to Be Natsuki Battle Crisis, Macross: Scramble Valkrie, Thunder Force IV, Mega Man X, and Phantasy star IV. Give the soundtracks a good listen one day! What soundtracks do you have favorited?

Disable Ads by becoming a Time Extension Supporter

Hey everyone,

For some years now, we've been asked by users of Nintendo Life, Push Square and Pure Xbox if they can pay a subscription to disable adverts on our sites without having to use their adblocker.

We've finally put together our subscription offering, which essentially allows you to disable adverts (although you can leave them on if you like) and show your support with a little badge next to your username.

We're announcing it here in the forum first, as I wanted to get some initial feedback before we promote it further. We've priced our subscription at $3.99/month (or $39.99 annually, saving 17%), and one subscription applies to ALL our websites too. We wanted the monthly price to be around that of a coffee, as we felt that is a fair price for what we offer.

Find out more: https://www.timeextension.com/supporter use coupon 'EARLYBIRD' to get 10% off your first purchase (limited to the first 100 users).

Please Note: that whilst we're in this testing phase, only other Subscribers will be able to see your supporter badge if you have it enabled.

Anyway, I'd love to hear your feedback below,

Cheers!

Modern Retro Games to Download

Back in 2020 I found myself with some unexpected free time... and what started as an experiment in Z80 assembler, quickly got out of control and turned into some new arcade inspired ZX Spectrum games, and a ZX emulation engine for Windows and Linux PCs - complete with CRT display simulation for extra retro goodness. The games are now available to download, as audio files for loading directly onto ZX machines, .tap and .tzx files for emulators and stand-alone applications for Windows and Linux PCs.

The games are free to try, full versions cost a small amount, to keep the site running and cover the cost of making them available, and thanks to the magic of QR codes, in a quite surreal turn of events its even possible to buy the full version(s) direct from a ZX Spectrum using a phone. The games are stupidly addictive and great fun to play. More information at:

Retro Gaming Cables

Soooo, does anyone use cables from https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/ ?

I seem to remember them being mentioned on NL a few years back (I could be misremembering)

Are they still best in class? Particularly for a UK based store?

I'd also be looking for a shielded RGB Scart switch which RGC have in the works according to their website. (They have another scart switch available now that requires another device or something). Anyone know of a decent scart switch available now from a UK seller? With as many ports as possible!

@Damo thought I'd give you a tag as you seem to be the expert on these things and it may have been you who mentioned RGC on NL way back when!

Backstory:

I just bought a 28inch 4:3 CRT. The working ports on it are an RGB Scart, a VGA (which I'll likely use for a PC) and an s video which I can't test. It also has another scart port which is pretty iffy

Apart from the cables thing, so far so good! Just got to work out a decent place to put this absolute beast!

Advice for connecting an Atari 2600 to a modern tv.

Recently a friend of mine just recently picked up an Atari with 20 games off of Craigslist. He was wondering what are his options for hooking it up to a modern TV. Obviously there is modding but he doesn't want to go that route. Is there a place where maybe cables are available or an option similar to that?
