The Making Of: Worms, The Bedroom-Coded Classic That Spawned A Million-Selling Series

"I was worried about losing control of it".

For Worms creator Andy Davidson, his love of gaming started when he would play his Atari 2600 and Nintendo Game & Watch. It wasn’t long until he received his first computer, a Commodore 64, which led to a passion for developing his own games.

“It’s in my blood,” Davidson tells us. “Video games were the first things that captured my imagination as a kid. Just being able to make something move around on a television screen seemed like magic, and I knew as soon as I saw my first computer, aged nine, in the classroom at school, I wanted to make a game.”

Read the full article on timeextension.com

Based on the famous sci-fi novels by Frank Herbert, it took the epic battle for Arrakis and turned it into a real-time contest of cunning, strategy and resource management, paving the way for subsequent games like Command & Conquer and Warcraft.

Originally released on the Amiga, PC and Mega Drive, the game established Westwood Studios as one of the leading lights of the RTS genre – but the company arguably never quite captured the same magic with its sequels, Dune 2000 and Emperor: Battle for Dune.

Read the full article on timeextension.com

'Dungeonette - The New Adventure' Is A Promising Dungeon Crawler For The Amiga / CD32

From the developer behind Cyberpunks & Cyberpunks 2.

Adrian Cummings, the developer behind the Commodore Amiga titles Cyberpunks, Cyberpunks 2, and Castle Kingdoms, yesterday announced on the English Amiga Board website that he is working on a new hack and slash dungeon crawler called Dungeonette - The New Adventure for the Commodore Amiga and Amiga CD32 (as spotted via IndieRetroNews!).

According to the developer's post, the game entered development shortly after work on Cyberpunks 2 (which was released last year) ended, and has been a bit of "a slow burner". He claims he is currently two-thirds of the way through mapping the title, which he states is going to be "pretty big" and set in the fictional lands of 'Amigea'.

Read the full article on timeextension.com

A "Missing" Amiga Port Of Codemasters' Stuntman Seymour Has Just Been Recovered

Games That Weren't rescues a lost piece of Codemasters' history.

Games That Weren't, the incredible online resource for lost and cancelled games, shared the news earlier today that it has recovered a missing Amiga port of Codemasters' side-scrolling platformer Stuntman Seymour. And better yet, it has made the files for the port available online, should you want to check it out for yourself.

Stuntman Seymour, in case you've never heard of it, was originally released on the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, and Amstrad CPC in 1992 and was developed by the company Reflective Designs and published by Codemasters. An Amiga version of the game was in development between 1992 to 1993 and was pretty much finished. However, it was ultimately never released and has pretty much been missing ever since its cancellation.

Read the full article on timeextension.com

Stepping out of the shadows.

Shadow Dancer is part of the long-running Shinobi series, but is perhaps seen as something of a black sheep by fans.
